Fedora 10 Desktop Effect Customization

in Fedora 10 - what is the difference between Desktop Effects and Compiz?

is Desktop Effects part of Compiz? I notice that with Desktop Effects i can't pick the number of Workspaces but with Compiz i can...

also When i run Compiz it overrides the Desktop Effects, can someone clarify with me if they are two separate Desktop Effect Managers? is Desktop effect on Fedora 10 part of Compiz or Metacity?

"Desktop Effects" = built-in to desktop software; Compiz[-Fusion] = a complete separate Window Manager.

No, but Compiz does have effects that affect the desktop appearance.

The desktop already has a built-in workspace manager.

Of course: you can only have ONE Window Manager managing windows at one time.

Yes: one built-in to the desktop, and Compiz[-Fusion].

Desktop Effects = compiz

Desktop Effects is part of the compiz-gnome package, the Desktop Effects can be altered using the ccsm package.

Code:
[root@localhost Desktop]# yum whatprovides /usr/bin/desktop-effects
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit
Finished
compiz-gnome-0.8.3-2.fc10.x86_64 : Compiz gnome integration bits
Repo : fusion
Matched from:
Filename : /usr/bin/desktop-effects
