Question ATI Radeon 9200 Card Refresh Rate too high

I've finished with my first install of Fedora 9 (my 1st experience with Linux). I am running a Radeon 9200 card on an Acer AL1916W Monitor 1400x900 native resolution. I think the drivers that come with this OS is setting the fresh rate too high for this card because when Fedora's GUI loaded for the 1st time the display was all garbled (looked like the old block adult channels). I've been searching for a way to lower the display characteristics to something the card can manage to no avail. I tried a live install on another nVidea based machine with the same monitor and it worked like a champ, so I know its a driver issue with this card / monitor setup. (And no getting new hardware is not an option - lol)

I am lost. I don't really care about the getting the maximum frequency and resolution and all that. I just want to be able to see the GUI.

Thank you in advance for your help.

This is a bug in the xorg radeon driver that I reported some time ago, well over a year now. I had the same card and monitor. The only options are to replace the card or to use the vesa driver. The only distros immune to this bug are Mandriva and OpenSuse that I know of. As it's a legacy card it's low priority so I don't think it will ever get fixed. Search this forum for my frustrations with it!

Nah, it more its more like a scrambled tv channel, I can't even make out what I'm seeing. I would post a pic but the attachment tool isn't working for me.

The video card has worked fine for years under Windows.
