Mark messages on pop3 server as read without downloading them?

I check the same pop3 account from several computers, so I leave the "leave messages on server" in the mail client checked, so that when I download the mail on computer A, computer B will also see that there is new mail. The problem is if I get a new computer, or switch clients or something, then there are zillions of messages that get downloaded, fill up the inbox, and then more get downloaded, ad nausium. Is there a way to from a command line say "mark all messages on this server as read" so that they won't get downloaded?

Thanks,

Dave
