How to configure irDa and remote control on Dell Studio 1535 (Fedora 10)

Hi!

I have a Dell Studio 1535 with build-in irDa and external remote control (which was included). I am just wondering, is it possible to make it works in Fedora 10?

Here what I've tried:

1. I've enabled irDa service
2. I've installed irda-utilites package
3. I've installed LIRC (which didn't recognize any Infrared devices)

I think that the problem is in hardware (probably kernel does not yet supported this device)

Also, I did find a vista driver (for a ITE IT8512 CIR Receiver device, I hope I have this one).

Thanks in advance.

Re: How to configure irDa and remote control on Dell Studio 1535 (Fedora 10)

I am in the process of getting the headphone jack working. My roomate has the same computer as I do, and after a little effort he has everything, even headphone jack, working perfectly, so it is not impossible. Also keep in mind that both my roomate and I are very new to linux, i have been running ubuntu for only about 4 months. If I can get it running, anyone can.

Re: How to configure irDa and remote control on Dell Studio 1535 (Fedora 10)

After some time, I have found out that guys from Ubuntu forum DID fixed it87 driver for Dell Studio 1535 (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...6&postcount=46). I grab these changed files (lirc_it85.c and lirc_it85.h) from the forum, but I don't know how to compile and install this driver on Fedora 13. Can anyone help with step-by-step instructions?

Here is my system:

Code:
# uname -r
2.6.34.6-54.fc13.i686
Default lirc installation does not work (doesn't see device)

Code:
# rpm -qa lirc*
lirc-0.8.6-7.fc13.i686
lirc-libs-0.8.6-7.fc13.i686
lirc-remotes-0.8.6-7.fc13.i686
Code:
# lshal | grep ITE
udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pnp_ITE8708'
  info.product = 'PnP Device (ITE8708)'  (string)
  info.udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pnp_ITE8708'  (string)
  pnp.id = 'ITE8708'  (string)
Code:
# lsmod | grep lirc
Code:
