I've set the kernel arguments for the bootloader from rhgb quiet to acpi=off and I can monitor what's happening a little bit.

The two cores that fail to boot properly hang up with a constantly flashing screen just after the Avahi deamon gets started - when I enter CTL-ALT-DEL to reboot I can see the list that the rest of the services have started OK before the reboot begins.

Althought there is a message at the beginning of the boot sequence to enter I to start an inteactive boot I can't get the boot sequence into an itertactive mode in which I anticipate starting each of the sequenctial services manually.

Any comments about what I might try to do here?

Also it appears that the snort service failed higher up in the list.....
