Question open xchange Server

HEADLINE: Free version of Open-Xchange Server now available

Has anybody tested this system yet, and can give a howto for configuration?

Thx

The Java SDK part worries me. If it requires non-free software to work it'll never make it into Fedora, which means it won't make it into RHEL, which means there's little point in it beeing gpl. Hope I'm wrong.

Yes, there are RPMs of these items - the one for Ant on the FC2 discs are not what you think they should be - they're optimized and recompiled under GCJ to "native" code, so may not work.

I always recommend getting the .bin files for the SDK straight from Sun. As for Ant, it can be had from the Apache site, along with the source for it. Getting the source for the SDK takes quite a bit more doing and I do not recommend that.

Don't know about the sources for openXchange, though - I'd think they'd be available from the site....

Looks like there is a Fedora Open-Xchange HOWTO located here:http://sietse.net/ox-howto/

I've gone through it but still get some compilation errors... maybe someone will get this to work successfully and reveal the secrets.

i got it working after about 12 hours of screwing with it. logging in as admin doesnt seem to do anything that looks like an "admin interface" maybe i screwed something up. and i can't get the top bar icons to update...guessing theres a cache to be dumped somewhere.

i'm just honestly astonished that it finally works.

only a bunch of fools would develop in java. i'm startled that since this is supposedly a gpl release of what they've been feeding suse that this isnt a lot more polished and bugfree right away.

Why don't you just write IBM and tell them that? And I'm quite sure that HP, Oracle, BEA, and a host of others would be similarly amused at your assertion.
