MSI WIND Windows too big for screen size keeps moving
i'm running Fedora 10 with Gnome on MSI WIND [10" screen @ 1024x600]
now alot of program windows tend to be abit longer in height than my 600pix screen so some of the options gets hidden underneath or below the lower panel or bottom of screen. When i try to click on the viewable area of the window the window automatically moves down to show the hidden area, when i try to click on anything on the window again [like OK CLOSE or CANCEL options] the window moves back up.
I can't seem to resize the window either by shortening it's height
I realise it does this all the time - i had the same issue with Ubuntu
can anyone tell me how can i disable this feature? or at least make the windows appear less then 600px height

I don't use Gnome, so can only offer a kludge till someone with more knowledge answers.
If worst comes to worst, you can hit alt+F7, then move the window up, down, left and right with the arrow keys, so you can at least get to the buttons.
May I ask, which MSI Wind do you have, with which wireless card, and was it easy to get Fedora working with it? (The wireless).

Wow, you've got the same problems. I have an Asus U1F (1366 x 768 px) and 768px also is a bit too "short" for many menus. I'm curious how to fix this.

I tend to use fluxbox in everything. I find it very good in the netbooks because I can move a window up until it goes off the screen, using keyboard shortcuts.
I know that some of the standard netbook GUIs using Gnome delete either the top or bottom panel. Might that help?

Of course there is an xorg.conf...otherwise you'd have some big problems.
Using Gnome:
Code:
su -
gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Using KDE:
Code:
su -
Kwrite /etc/X11/xorg.conf

I ran into this problem with my EEE pc (701 4G) when I was running an Ubuntu remix with Gnome. This line of code worked there, and it works on my Acer Aspire One (10 inch) running Fedora 10 with Gnome.
Open a terminal, type
gconftool-2 --set /apps/compiz/plugins/move/allscreens/options/constrain_y --type bool 0
And you should be good to go under Gnome.
Found on the Ubuntu help site: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireOne#line-869

Forgot to mention - my fix just makes it possible to drag windows off the screen - it won't resize them for our netbook screens.

you can just hold down ALT before left-clicking (and holding) over the window, then you can drag it.

@charvus,
OT but do you have sound from your 10" Aspire One's built-in speakers in Fedora? I've tried three units, running ALSA 1.0.19, and still can only get sound thru headphones.

Noblacktie, you should really start a separate thread on that. There's a lot of people here who use, or have used the AA1 and they might simply ignore the Wind thread, but would see one titled no sound in Acer Aspire One.
The quick answer by the way is I've been able to get sound. I've sometimes had to create a file in /etc/modprobe.d called alsa-base and put a line in
options snd-hda-intel model=acer
On the other hand, someone else had better luck using model=acer-aspire
Also, I don't use Gnome or pulse-audio which might have something to do with it. (Although I've always thought most of my pulse-audio problems were due to not using Gnome or KDE.)

Heh, nothing wrong with that. I see you started a new thread on it, hopefully, you'll have better luck. I've had no trouble with sound on F10 with the AA1, but hopefulyl, sideways or another really knowledgeable sort will get involved.
