Hi Rohn
This should solve the problem. In Fedora 10 root login is disabled by default and hence you would have to enable it . Please go through the following link on how this has to be done.

From a terminal:
su -
(your password)
nautilus
edit: I HATE, and I mean despise, loath, am sickened by the fact that Fedora did this stupid, foolish thing!!! However, I wish people would not so freely give these directions that allow newer users to bypass this precaution. A root GUI session is necessary in a very FEW cases, but those cases are by qualified system administrators. As a home desktop user you have no need/ business in a root GUI session!!! Please learn the PROPER way to do things in Linux. Case in point, I run Linux Mint and I did not choose to even create a root login. I do everything with sudo and su. You have an option in Fedora to install an app called BeeSU. Between that (which acts like gksu), enabling sudo and the standard su/ su - you have infinite control over everything without having to log in as root.
</rant> Thanks for reading.

If you log into init5, aka X session, aka GUI, as root and screw thing up, please PLEASE come back here and post what you did so we can all have a good laugh...
For that matter, we will even promise to be amused by any of your command line screw-ups when su'ed into root as well! You know, like the time when I ran the chown -R in the wrong directory! Hahaha what a bone up that was... bye bye user login!
TFG I had enabled root gui login, I just samba'd into a network drive in konqueror and backed up my user data and did a re-install. whew! that was a close one...

A nice compromise is to add yourself to the 'wheel' group, jump to the terminal and then 'sudo konqueror". Oh ya, be careful.

Actually, I don't know exactly what happened with my situation. My forensic mapping of the bash_history file looked OK to me. But there is the reality, no more login after the last known operation...
That right there is the bottom line. Where the rubber meets the road. This is not Windows, and you don't need a gui interface to really screw things up.

I disagree with you 100000000%. How do you know that or anyone else? It pisses me off when people make that decision for me. That is the Microsoft way and hate Fedora 10 has started to do the same. Suggest all the best practices you want, but do not force me to do what you think is right.

Because everyone else has managed to not do this once they learn how to use Linux for the last 16 years! Unix/Linux has certain rules, as does Windows for that matter. If you want to be an idiot and think you do not need to follow standard procedures thought out to make Unix/Linux safe from both the user and outside influences, then be my guest. No one is making you do anything it is your computer. But, tell me one reason why you would need a root GUI login? I add the stipulation that this has to be a home user scenario, even administering a server and small network.
It irritates me also that Fedora forced this decision on us, go back and read my post. The fact still remains that you do not need a root GUI login. I would say laziness is the only reason but even that is not a good excuse. You can do everything from your user account. Again, I emphasize, learn the PROPER way to do things.

I'm going to put on my CM hat here and request participants in this thread to moderate their language. This is a family forum and kids get enough bad language on TV, etc, as it is. We don't need to throw any more at them!
Thanks
