Logon with any user denied after upgrading to Fedora 10

After upgrading to Fedora 10 yesterday, I am unable to log on, neither with my user nor as root.

As I could state, during the migration process /etc/passwd, /etc/group and /etc/shadow were renamed to /etc/passwd- and so on.

I have tried anything to get around the problem. The last action was the advice in thread 27141 to reset the root password by temporarly editing the grub option: I could set a new root password in Single User mode, but I am unable to logon with the new password at the default X-logon screen.

Has anyone an advice? Or do I have to install Fedora 10 as a new installation as last possibility?

Johann
