Flash player on F8 64 (SOLVED)

I cannot get flash working on F8 with Firefox 2, 64 bit. Any ideas would be welcome. I have tried so many things it may not be salvageable.

Have you tried the 64 bit libflash plugin from Adobe? Although they're calling it alpha, it's running pretty well for most of us.

Thanks for the reply. I have not tried that. I have it working on 64 bit laptop with FC9, and a 32bit ws with FC8. Just cannot seem to get it working on this one....Do you have a link for the adobe 64 flash?

Well, Leigh has been nice enough to build some rpms that will not only install it, but put it in the right place for you.

Ah, here we go. It's a sticky, actually.

For anyone else having a problem installing flash on 64 bit OS. You just need to download the adobe flash 64 ...the problem why it doesn't work auto you need to copy the libflash file to mozilla/plugins.
cp libflashxxx.so mozilla/plugins from the directory that the flash file is in. You need to have firefox 3.0.6 installed, and remove all the wrappers first.

Leigh's rpm will put it into the right place. Actually, I put into /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins rather than /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins

Scottro, so what would be the difference in the the two locations as far as browser if you are only using 64 bit browser?

Hrrm, that's a good question. I would *think* that the 64 bit would look in /lib64 first, but I honestly don't know. I just put it there (when I first installed, I'd not seen Leigh's rpm, so I downloaded from Adobe) because it seemed more logical and as it worked, I haven't tried putting it in the /usr/lib. Judging from your post though, it seems to have worked.

I'm going to mark your thread solved, as I think that helps others searching for solutions.

No, the thread won't be moved. It's just that when people search for 64 bit flash, or similar terms, they will, hopefully, see the thread title and see the word SOLVED in the title.

Leigh is one of the Administrators of the forum. Aside from that, he has put together several rpms for various things, including some NVidia ones. His user name is actually Leigh123 or something like that.

Among his other useful rpms was one for 64 bit Flash, which as I said, not only installed it, but puts it in the right place.
