Exclamation Fedora 10 64bit freezes on Acer Aspire 6930G (Compiz & Nvidia 9600)

I installed Fedora 10 on my brand new Acer Aspire 6930G. Here I described the steps of installation on my website:

Install Fedora Core 10 x86_64 on Acer Aspire 6930G

I experienced X server freeze after several hours of working with Compiz enabled. The freeze occurs more often when I enable the TwinView to work with two screens, ever with Compiz enabled.

I have also another installation of Fedora 9 64bit on another Acer Aspire 7720G but I never had similar problems. This is my installation tutorial:

Install Fedora Core 9 x86_64 on Acer Aspire 7720G

Maybe it is a problem of NVIDIA driver or X server release (or both?).

Advices?

I still have the same problem also after the latest upgrade of FC10 kernel and nvidia driver with NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT. I had also a freeze of few seconds with compiz disabled.

No problem with FC9 64bit upgraded to latest kernel and nvidia driver release with NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS.

Fedora 10 x86 64 freezes with Intel Mobile

I don't think this is NVIDIA problem. I am using Fedora 10 x86 64 on Fujitsu Siemens V5505. My driver is intelfb with Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960. I have compiz enabled. System freezes quite often and I always need to restart the computer.

I think this problem is caused by the X server and compiz. When compiz is disabled, system freezes as well, but not so often.

same problem in ubuntu

Hey I'm running ubuntu 9.04, and I'm having the same problem as you guys

System: Acer aspire 6930G, Intel Core2 Duo T6400, nvidia 9600 GT.
Ubuntu x64 9.04, Windows 7 x64.

The freeze occurs quite often, after the system have been on for a while.
I've been in contact with acer both on phone and pr mail(which the bastards never responds to), and they couldnt give any solution nor any idea what the problem could be. All they said was that they didn't support this os and yadayadayada.

I suspect it might be overheating issues, unfortunately I haven't been able to get lm-sensors to work properly so all I get is cpu core tempratures.

Have anyone of you come up with a solution, or have any idea(s) of what the problem might be?

(Actually sitting in win7 here atm, don't seem to have the same problem here, though I have to use it more to actually confirm it).

regards,
Bender

FWIW, I have this problem on a custom built server (SuperMicro) - it'll stop responding to most things (login via ssh doesn't get past the password prompt, hangs hard, smtp stops, httpd stops, etc etc etc ) between 01:00 and 04:00 right around 14 days from the last reboot when running any kernel later than 2.6.27.5-117.fc10.x86_64. I can't say it's definitely not a video driver problem (I have an nVidia card) but I'm using runlevel 3 since I don't actually work on that console and it still happens. In fact, the only time anyone's on the console is to try and reboot it, but even that won't work since logins won't give a command prompt so it's the reset button on the front of the machine......
