HP is taking orders now for Linux laptop

Hewlett-Packard is now taking orders for their nx5000 business notebook computers with Novell’s SuSE Linux 9.1 installed. This is a great move by major vendor which i hope to see more in the future from vendor like Dell, Gateway, and etc. Starting at $1,140, the nx5000 ships with either Intel Corp.’s Celeron or Pentium processors, a 15-in. screen, and 30GB to 60GB of storage.

At the Linux User and Development Conference in London in April, HP Samba Team member Jeremy Allison agreed with attendees that buying a laptop without Windows is difficult, and he promised that HP will be making progress in that area. Allison acknowledged that the first thing he had done with his work laptop was to reformat it and remove Windows.

still wish you could buy a laptop without any os installed on it....your still paying a fee if its M$ or Suse..its a little less but still to much for people who want a free alternative such as fedora..but agreed good move someone had the balls to do it....

i can buy at fry's for $699 (amd athon 2800+ mp 256ddr 30gb) + taxes and then install the software myself and fry's also sell a brand call great quality pc with an amd duron 1.6 with preinstall Lindows in it for $179. + taxes....
