Light for caps lock, num lock etc. not working
I use fedora 9 on a Dell Precision M6400. I have selected "Dell Laptop/notebook Precision M series" for layout, but none of the caps lock or num lock indicator lights are working.
I thought stuff like that was OS/Software independent... I have backlight on the keyboard which is working fine.
Any ideas?

I've never had much luck with those keyboard layouts either. I just left them not enabled and have lights and most keys working on my Inspiron 1520 but that is with F10 KDE. From memory same applied in earlier versions.

Looks like your keyboard mapping is imperfect. That is why its resulting in certain keys (caps/num keys) stopping functionality. You may need to setup configuration settings manually.
Fedora

Do you have any idea where the conf file is, and what I need to fix in the conf file to get the light indicators working? Do I need to require some specifications from the manufacturer?

Well, F10 is not an option for me because of this bug:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=471737
But after the latest kernel update for F9, suddenly the indicators are lighting up like a Christmas tree.
Good things come to those who wait ... hehe :-D

Time to try F11. I have F11 on DELL M6400 with Intel RAID 0. dmraid is working right from anaconda. The only problem you'll see with install is that Grub won't install right due to grub cannot recognize disk geometry rightly. This is easy to fix, I'll just let you know if you try F11

The bug report I linked to is about RAID1, which I am using. I have not been able to find any information that suggests it is supported in either F10 or F11 (yet). As far as I know, they are working on a fix for F11, but the latest info in the bug report is from March.
By the way... my lights are back on again :-D ... But I really am looking forward to install the newest version of Fedora. But I wont bather trying until I am certain RAID 1 is supported.

Why don't want to be the first trying Fedora 11 on your DELL M6400 with Intel raid 1? I help to test dmraid patches for dmraid to recognize the RAID 0 setup in M6400, unfortunately my config has RAID 0 but I wonder if the problem you have is also fixed with those patches.
So go ahead and give it a try to Fedora 11; Your M6400 will thank you
