    Analog joystick on gameport?

I have a SB Live! sound card and a Logitech Wingman Formula steering wheel (4 button 2 axis joystick). How do I configure an analog joystick on the sound card gameport?

I have tried searches in this forum, in the wiki, and on the internet with no luck.

    Have you tried this?

With the Live!, you need the emu10k1-gp module. With the Wingman Formula, you need the iforce driver/module. More info in the joystick.txt file

I have been looking into this every day and no place has a good explanation. But here is what I have pieced together from different sites and from testing.

The correct kernel modules must be loaded for a joystick attached to a gameport to work. Three modules are required: gameport, joydev, analog.

By default F10 loads the gameport module. As root, you need to load the analog module (which also loads the joydev module) with
    Code:
    modprobe analog
    Then use
    Code:
    jstest
    to verify the joystick works.

I am attempting to write a script which will aid with making sure everything is properly set up.

OK, this stuff turns out to be pretty simple, but only when you know how it all works. Here is a link to Information about the default linux joystick driver. This site includes a list of supported joysticks.

The gameport is not like a USB port. The gameport does not automatically notify the system when a joystick is plugged in or unplugged. Therefore something has to be done manually to notify the system to check what kind of joystick is attached. This is done by loading/reloading the kernel module "analog". I wrote a script called "jsreload" to do this.
    Code:
    #!/bin/sh
    echo "Reload joystick module..."
    echo -n "Root "
su -c "modprobe -w -r analog; modprobe analog"
I wrote another script simply to dump out the status of whether the necessary kernel modules are loaded and calls a C program to dump the names of the attached joysticks. Instead of posting those here, you can run the following to check if the analog kernel module has detected joysticks.
    Code:
    ls /dev/js*
