Services stopping on Gnome logout

Recently I've noticed that a number of services stop and do not come back on when logging out of Gnome. For example, I'm running ssh and smb as services on my computer and when I log out of my Gnome session, I'm no longer able to access my network shares or ssh into my computer until I log back in. The services are enabled on runlevels 2-5 according to system-config-services. It just seems like this is really dumb behavior and I was wondering if there was any way to prevent this.

Should be 3 & 5, not 2. Look at inittab file for clues.
Show us:
Code:
su -
chkconfig --list | grep ssh
chkconfig --list | grep smb
chkconfig --list | grep nmb
Whoops, nevermind. How are you starting the ssh services?

[root@slab josh]# chkconfig --list | grep ssh
sshd 0:off 1:off 2:on 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off
[root@slab josh]# chkconfig --list | grep smb
smb 0:off 1:off 2:on 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off
[root@slab josh]# chkconfig --list | grep nmb
nmb 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off

SSH service was enabled by default when I installed and I have not changed the settings. Both show up under system-config-services as enabled etc. but seem to be disabled when I log out of gnome.

Try:
Code:
chkconfig nmb on
Reboot your rig and report if that works.
