Belkin F5D7051 (WiFi) & rndis_wlan

Upon installing F10, my belkin F5D7051 USB WiFi would fail miserably and even prevent the system from booting or running lsusb. This appeared to be down to conflicting drivers, I managed to fix this by blacklisting rt2500usb, rt2x00usb and rt2x00lib, and it now uses rndis_wlan.

The problem now is that I cannot connect to my WPA-PSK protected network. Networks show up in NetworkManager, but try as I might it just constantly rejects my key. I tested it on a WEP network and it worked. But I need to use WPA-PSK.

As far as wpa_supplicant.log goes,

Hello kahrn,

Well, apparently nobody has any ideas. I would try this. Connect via that WEP network (or by any available means including wire+NIC) and update the kernel and NetworkManager (or the whole system maybe). Try again. No promises.

Thanks for the advice. As far as things go (I haven't done any upgrades yet) it seems to have resolved itself to a point. I have managed to connect 2 or 3 times. So far 2 times in a row.

kahrn never identified the chipset in the wireless card discussed here, but that Belkin F5D7051 USB wireless device is known to use the Broadcom 4320 USB chipset. And the Linux Wireless web site states that the BCM4320 USB chipset is the "only wireless RNDIS chip known to date" (no date is on that page). To me, the most interesting thing about this thread is that three built-in Ralink driver modules had to be blacklisted before a wireless card with a Broadcom chipset would work with the rndis_wlan built-in driver module. I was not aware that such a thing ever happens. It inclines me to universally recommend examining the lsmod report for unwanted built-in wireless modules.

If it helps, here is my lsusb -v and lsmod with rt* modules loaded. This is on a IBM Thinkpad X31, running Xubuntu (not fedora, but both have the same problem)

Also, it's worth noting that the wpa problem applies to both WPA-PSK and WEP, however I *can* connect. It just takes multiple attempts usually, and is usually easier on a WEP network that is closer range.
