Basic

Has programming in BASIC changed much over the years as simple as it is?

I vaguely remember learning a few BASIC commands in grade school, but I have a BASIC microcontroller to program and my grade school memories are not sufficient. So can I assume a book written in 1978 (for $0.01 on amazon) will still give me what I need to know

Learned BASIC in PET Commodore. Later in college days, learned QuickBASIC. Nowadays, there is Visual Basic which I have not learned. Just C++ & C#.

MS Dos 6 (and previous vers), has a basic compiler that is included in the distribution. I have seen this available on the net occasionally. I have various "paid for" versions, but sometimes do not have them along with me, and I have used one of these.

Right, you mean Qbasic. If you have those MS-DOS 5.x or 6.x install floppies then you can install it in Linux using Dosbox or DOSEMU. I've got it on my Fedora system, using DOSEMU. It even runs the included GORILLAS.BAS program, the game where gorillas throw bananas at each other.

You could also install FreeDOS, which comes with several BASIC interpreters.

There's now a VB6 clone for Linux, called KBasic, which uses the Qt libraries. Check out the screenshots. Heh.
