iso burned but not recognized

i just burned my fedora-10-i386-dvd.iso to a dvd-r through nero smartstart. i first noticed something was wrong when i went to view my iso and the icon it has is for winzip. i burned it to a disk anyway. i put it in my pc which has been f-disked so it has a partition but no existing OS. the cd will spin slowly for a split second then stop then repeat. i mounted the .iso to my pc through daemon tools and when i did it came up with the windows on what to do with it (open to view files, burn etc...) what is wrong with it?

sounds like a bad burn? by rights the file shouldnt have been saved as a winzip file i'd be going into your File Associations preferences in winzip an unchecking the .ISO an then possibly burn it agan

Or it could be the DVD drive in the fdisked computer.

Something I noticed is that some DVD drives like "-r" disks and others prefer "+r" disks. Both drives (in my situation) stated that they do both, but... reality was they didn't.

I don't know if that's the case here but it could be.

The following instructions may be helpful to you in burning a new DVD. (just replace "DVD" wherever the author writes "CD")

bad design by winzip cause i use winrar an you can uncheck these associations. i dunno what to suggest for a test, but possibly buy a Linux Magazine that hopefully has Fedora9 or 10 in it an then check just to be sure what it is

Try using a +r disk and try following the instructions here:

http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/nero6.html

When following the instructions substitute "DVD" wherever you see "CD".

Just to rule out the possibility...

I hope you are burning the ISO as an IMAGE & NOT a DATA disk. A lot of people do this & can't figure out why there disks won't work.

bad design by winzip cause i use winrar
never have liked them on xp i like 7-zip and the very OLD "WinTarBall"
or gnuwin32(mingw) rar/unrar ,zip/unzip, ...
--------------------
""Burning image to disk""
then it is the dvd and drive combo . Some drives like certain dvd's but not others .
also for the best results burn a dvd image(iso) at x2,x4 ,and maybe x8 max.

You MAY already know this, but for those that don't...

Another thing I've ran into is trying to use CHEAP off brand disks. They just don't work. Be sure to use a good, name brand.
