Accessing web directory via Samba for editing - how?

Hi all

I have two Linux boxes that share files over my intranet with Samba. One of the systems is a webserver running Apache. I'd like to be able to edit my webpages in realtime on the non-webserving computer, by sharing /var/www/html/ over Samba. This seems to result in the non-webserver crashing when I'm in the middle of editing a webpage. Any ideas why this happens, and how I can stop it?

Don't get it! The only time the web server machine is involved is when you upload or "publish" your edited web page. I don't think your HTML editor is doing anything in real-time...meaning as soon as you change a tag, it's immediately uploaded. If your sitting in front of the "non-webserver" box editing your pages, and the system crashes, then you got a problem with that machine. If the system crashes when your transferring the updated pages to the web server, then you probably got a problem with the same machine. Does the system crash when you transfer any file to any samba share, or only when you're editing web pages on the local machine?
