how to connect my internet connection in fedora 9 ? plz tell this process. And tell me this process step by step...

What kind of Internet connection do you have (Cable? DSL?) Do you have a router?

You really should have a router, but if you can't wait to get started go to System > Administration > Network and set up a New Connection. Select xDSL connection for the type of connection. It will walk you through it, but you have to know your DSL username and password.

a universal NIC, one with a RTL8139-chipset, should be recoignized automaticly on windows and linux

A NIC is just where your internet cable plugs into. If your computer was built within the past 10 years it probably has at least one built in.
