Live CD ok INSTALL HANGS

This is my first time to try to install any Linux OS.

Fedora 10 live CD boots just fine and everything works.

If I put the live CD on the hard drive everything works.

But when I do a regular install the install goes just fine. Then I reboot and the little white line comes across and nothing else happens. I let it sit like that for 3 hours twice.

Its a Dell desktop with intel motherboard duo core 3 gig intel processor with 512 meg of ddr2700 ram(did the memory test and it passed) and a brand new 160 gig sata western digital hard drive.

When I install I choose the option that rewrites the whole hard drive.

After 6 attempts using different CD sets I have no idea.

"Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while" - message comes up when i hit the enter key or tab key, and then I have to unplug the computer to get it shut off.

thanks

I have the same problem with a Dell desktop AND and older IBM server AND my Averatec laptop. I do not think Fedora 10 is ready for prime time!

Fedora isn't for prime time. It is always pushing for what can be coded for. So lets start by inserting the live cd and booting into rescue mode. Mount the the sysimage: chroot /mnt/sysimage, and take a look around.

# cd /boot/grub/
# ls -la

if you see a number of files is there a grub.conf

# less grub.conf

tell us what you see.

Also tell us what hardware you are using. Manufacturer, processor, bios version etc...

ok i give up on the CD install, i installed Live CD instead to the hard drive and it boots ok, Now i am trying to get rid of all the junk stuff i do not want like games and the 100 or so different language supports etc. but when i try to remove them using the GUI system add and remove programs it gets to the point where it is going to apply changes and then says.. you dont have privilages to do this

I am logged in as root... i can remove them by using 'yum remove thespecificthing but since it seems there are hundreds of things this would take a lot of time

How can i get the gui to work and have the privilages i need to get this done using the "add and remove programs"?
