The best installer in Fedora is yumex I think. In console as root, type:

yum install yumex

If no errors, you can locate yumex in the gnome or kde menus. If you got an error using yum, post here.

You didn't log in as root at the graphical login screen? That should not be allow.
Should login as normal user and then use PackageKit/Yumex/yum to do the dirty work. It would ask for root password anyway.

if you try to install /update with the gui packagekit logged in a root it will not let you
so don't login as root ,login as a normal user and give the root password when the system asks .

OK Ill try this. Man this is very different from Unix. In AIX you have to su - to root or login at the console as root before you can add any software or do anything on the system.
