Trying to use the black cartridge only in a colour printer

I'm using F9 with a Canon Pixma MP160.

I want to do as the title says.

When using FC3, my recollection is that creating a file called "/etc/cups/lpoptions" and putting into it the line "Dest MP160 CNInkCartridgeSettings=bk" achieved that outcome for me.

However, it isn't working in F9.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I don't know if this is any help to you at all, but as replies will probably be slow tonight, I'll throw it out there. I'm not sure of such options, but at least when printing from Firefox or Opera, there is an option to not print color.

That doesn't really answer your question, but might be slightly useful for printing web pages at least.

Probably not much help to you, but I can set this option directly on the brother color laser printer, and can also set a password so that it cannot be reverted. (This using only the on-printer buttons for setting.) Perhaps your Canon also has such a facility?
