Doesn't boot after upgrade. Need to rescue data on LVM

Recently, I upgraded from Fedora 9 to 10, but now the system doesn't boot.
I really need to rescue my data (ex. local mediawiki data, mysql, etc) on LVM (/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00).
Please let me know how I can access to my LVM backup using Fedora Install or Live CD/DVD.
I appreciate any helps, advices, and hints. Also, if I'm lacking any info, please let me know. Thank you in advance!

    [devices]
    /dev/sda1: SWAP
    /dev/sda2: Linux LVM, /
    /dev/sdb1: xfs, /opt
    /dev/sdc1: jfs, /home

The first error messages I get are the followings:
    > hub ?-?:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 2
    > usb ?-?: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address ??
    > usb ?-?: device descriptor read/64, error -62
    > usb ?-?: device not accepting address ?, error -62
Many of those above (? are numbers).
BTW, I've checked following URIs but couldn't reach to solutions, so instead of trying to boot the system, decided to rescue the data and try clean re-install.

    http://fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=192930
    http://fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=190070

Then, the second error message is that fsck.jfs fails. I get this even /dev/sdc1 (which is JFS) is disconnected.
After that the system asks me to "Give root password for maintenance (or type Control-D to continue)"

you should be able to mount LogVol00 from a live CD session

    Code:
    su -
    mkdir /mnt/logvol00
    mount /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 /mnt/logvol00
    then look in /mnt/logvol00

Okay, so here is another problem.
I tried mount but said "special device .. does not exist"
    Code:
    mount -t ext3 /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 /mnt/logvol00
Under Fedora 9, /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 did exist (as far as I remember), but under Live CD session, /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 does not exist.

BTW, I tried following commands under Live CD session and got following results.
pvscan: "No matching physical volumes found"
vgscan: "Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while..." and got null
    lvscan: null

Are there anything else I can / should try?

mkdir /mnt/logvol00 before attempting to mount to it. Or boot in rescue mode, mount an external hard drive or usb disk and copy the data from /mnt/sysimage/whatever to it.

In the LIveCD session what does 'fdisk -l' show (as root)? If you've overwritten the LVM partition then it might be hopeless. There is a utility in the repos 'testdisk' which claims to recover lvm partitions if it's just the partition table that's been altered, I've used it to recover ntfs and plain ext3 partitions before but never an lvm group.

    target mount point does exist ( mkdir /mnt/mydata && mount /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 /mnt/mydata ). /dev/VolGroup00/* doesn't.

/dev/sda2 does exist so I tried
    Code:
    mount /dev/sda2 /mnt/mydata
but got "mount: unknown filesystem type 'crypt_LUKS'"

I assume should pass the password some how. Any suggestions??

    fdisk -l says:
    Code:
    /dev/sda1 * 1 25 200781 83 Linux
    /dev/sda2 26 36481 292832820 8e Linux LVM
    sda1 is SWAP, sda2 is /.

I don't think I overwritten the LVM partition. What I've done is used F10 DVD, chose "Upgrade Existing" (preserve current data).

Thanks for the info about 'testdisk', I'll try later.

You didn't mention that you were using an encrypted filesystem. You should probably stick to a simple setup in future to avoid this type of mess.

What does the grub.conf kernel line look like in /boot/grub (/dev/sda1 is /boot not swap, you can't put /boot in an lvm group)

    Code:
    mkdir /mnt/boot
    mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/boot
    cat /mnt/boot/grub/grub.conf
it may give a hint how to mount /dev/sda2

Does the filesystem mount when you boot from the installer in rescue mode without prompting for passwords? Is it reallly a crypted filesystem or is the kernel just having issues because of /dev/sda2's filesystem being lvm and not ext3/4?

    Isn't it /dev/MAPPER/whatever not just /dev/vol<whatever>?

It will probably be something like /dev/mapper/luks-*

I recall a bug about encrypted filesystems in F10 which requires a mkintrd downgrade

You are right. Sorry I didn't mention and will probably stick to simple setup in future.
    Code:
    #COMMENTS
    #boot=/dev/sda
    default=0
    timeout=0
    splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
    hiddenmenu
    title Fedora (2.6.27.5-117.fc10.x86_64)
              root (hd0,0)
              kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.27.5-117.fc10.x86_64 ro root=UUID=4b942406-f168-4401-8c3c-507e89fa5f14
              initrd /initrd-2.6.27.5-117.fc10.x86_64.img
When upgrading from f9 to f10, the installer gave me 3 choices for configuring the current boot menu (probably grub.conf). I remember choosing the first choice, which was the recommended one. That is probably why older entry (vmlinuz.2.6.??.fc9.x86_64 and so on) are gone.

Does this give a hint how to mount /dev/sda2 ?

Indeed, this is crypted filesystem. I remeber setting a password on installation and everytime I (re)boot, I do enter the password.

    Under LiveDVD session, I've checked:
    Code:
    # ls /dev/mapper/
    control live-osimg-min live-rw
    Unfortunately, I couldn't find luks-* under /dev/mapper

    Code:
    # rpm -q mkinitrd
    mkinitrd-6.0.71-2.fc10.x86_64
When booting from installed F10 (which stops during the boot process), I will be prompted for password for the filesystem, so perhaps, this bug is not affecting my case.

Thank you for helping me! I appreciate further sugesstions!

Unplug all the usb devices, reboot and post the error messages (try single user mode, press tab at grub boot and press 'a' then add '1' to the kernel line
