I still can not get Tap to Click to Disable!!!!! GGRRRR

Ok i have read about HAL but I can not find as of yet how to edit it, etc so I can get rid of this stupid Tap to Click setup.

I need some help please.

I do not want to go backwards, HAL is obviously a step forward in the developers mind so i need to learn what to do here.

I tried editing the XOrg.conf but that just breaks X. Gsny. can't work because of course shm is off by default.

All I want is the tapping off the rest is fine.

So who has figured this out?

Thanks.

If 'Xorg -configure :1' won't give you a suitable xorg.conf to edit then read the solution used for macbooks which gives an example hal fdi policy

try creating
/etc/hal/fdi/policy/99-x11-synaptics.fdi

cut and paste
Quote:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<deviceinfo version="0.2">
<device>
<match key="info.capabilities" contains="input.touchpad">
<merge key="input.x11_options.SHMConfig" type="string">On</merge>
</match>
</device>
</deviceinfo>
then run the command
Quote:
service haldaemon restart
then
Quote:
yum install gsynaptics
all as root, and you should be good to go. i pulled this from a non english website a while back, but i dont remember exactly where. worked for me.

I know how to make the Xorg.conf I just do not want to continue to use something they are obviously showing they are getting rid of and have been doing so since FC9.

I thank the other poster I will try that tomorrow morning, thats what I want to do is work with HAL which I think that does. I will be all over it in a few hours.

ok I did all that and its still doing the SHM Error trying to use Gsyn.

I restarted the whole system and now it works so I guess just edit the above instructions to say completely restart if HAL Restart fails.

But tapping is now gone, thank god!!!!! (And the HAL Way I might add... so long as it does not call me Dave)

.
Please don't post nonsense.

HAL is only being used to manage input devices (you can still do that from xorg.conf though if you prefer). You still need xorg.conf to enable proprietary drivers (ati, nvidia), set complex monitor layouts, enable/disable driver flags etc etc

Thanks any other ways you would like to be an ass? They have stated to control these components they would like to use HAL now. I want to do the same and not continue to go back to a method they are making obvious efforts to phase out.

Yes it works for nVidia as I am using it for but just adding it to the Xorg.conf does not fix the problem it requires more work. While that's fine it means we are going against the progress out of laziness to accept a new move and test. If we do so how can we solve future problems that may come up? By going back to the old way and not moving forward? I thought that was the Microsoft way....

But either way, thanks again for being an ass. Its great to see the treatment towards those who choose to try and work with the new changes because its not the way YOU want.

Considering what you quoted on me it seems frank that you have nothing better to do then polish an internet forum image. Waste your time else where.

it took you all week to come up with that response?

Anyway, don't get so upset, I even gave you credit for noticing that a haldaemon or xserver restart on its own won't apply the settings

Sometimes, in the interests of correctness it is necessary to be harsh, your statement about xorg.conf was a rather bold one that could lead to confusion, the fedoraproject link I posted is the accurate statement on the situation.
