Restore Point, Last Known Good

is there such a thing as a Restore Point or Last Known Good in Linux, Fedora 10? yes i am/was a Windows user, but have to admit there are some very nice and useful fetures. i looked in a bunch a books, ie F9 & Red Hat Bible, Fedora Linux Toolbox, and a couple more but could not find what i was looking for. can anyone if there is such a thing point me in that direction maybe with a hint or two or three how to get to it/use/implement it
thanks

I dont think it has that you can make backups like using mt commands and restoring from a dvd or cd linux has a rescue feature in the install cd maybe this is what your looking for.
I also was a windows guru....
Basic steps

1. Insert Fedora Install disc and type 'linux rescue' at the boot prompt

2. Follow the on screen instructions, there's no need to enable networking, and finally you'll be told to type 'chroot /mnt/sysimage' at the root prompt, so type that.

3. type 'grub-install /dev/hda' to reinstall grub on the mbr. (If your drive is a sata drive type 'grub-install /dev/sda'

Now remove the dvd and reboot and you should be fine.

A relatively simple system restore would be to make copies of configs you change in /etc/ and maybe dump a list of rpms you have installed before any updates. That way you can figure out what changed and revert back to what you knew worked.
