alsamixer: not running :/

hey everyone.
just got ALSA setup for my soundcard, but i've encountered a problem.
after compiling, i'll attempt to run it, but encounter this error:
"alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory"
any ideas?!?

thanks,
ben

EDIT: Did a little extra searching, found the solution. For all who've encountered this prob, check out this link:

thanks anyways,
ben
