FC2 kernel panic message on installation

I just finished downloading FC2 final and burned onto CDs. Upon booting from disc1 to install (on my laptop), after I chose graphical install, it loads up vmlinux image... , a couple more stuff, and then I got the kernel panic message and it just stops there. Any help?


1.5GHz Centrino laptop (Gateway)
ATi Mobility Radeon 7500

I receive the exact same message.

Running on a panasonic cf-50
intel centrino
ATI MOBILE RADEON 9000

FC1 running fine on the labtop.

Received the same message with FC2 test 3

Same message in text mode as well

Ok, I finally got it to install. After a lot of googling, I found out that I have to set "acpi=off" (kernel option) for it to continue. Now I'm not sure exactly what ACPI is other than that it has to do something with power management. I'm fairly new to this (first time installing Fedora on laptop, RH9 before and it works fine) so I'll be doing a LOT more googling on this.

Heya,

got the same kernel panic at installation of FC2 on a Samsung P30 XTC Notebook.

The same problem occured with FC1 and kernel 2.2.25 and ACPI=on. After some googling and try 'n error i found out that APM, APIC and ACPI are no good co-workers. With kernel 2.4.xx my notebook worked fine with acpi=on and NO kernel support for APIC and APM.

I installed FC2 last night, so i cannot tell you if this kernel-config will work on FC2's kernel 2.6.5, but tonight i will try out and if somebody mind, i will post the result.

Got ACPI running without further problems on an ASUS M2400N notebook. My Samsung P30 will be next being upgraded to Fedora Core 2 ;-)

Remember:
- Installation with acpi=off
- After Installation rebuild kernel without APIC and/or APM support (make sure to include your fs support or build an initrd with it, FC2 standard-kernel has only ext2-support built in)

In some of the previous posts it was recommended tp set kerne; parameter acpi=off. Where exactly do you do that?

hi,

with GRUB bootmanager installed, select the item you want to boot and press "a". then you will see the kernel parameters ("linux ... ... rhgb vga=xxx", etc.) just add "acpi=off".

with LILO you have to enter the whole command-line manually (AFAIK), e.g. "linux 2.6 /dev/hda1 acpi=off" I never used LILO, so I may tell ****, ask some suse freaks, many of them use LILO

Hi scroob,
tnx for the reply. I finally worked out where in the options to put the acpi=no (not off) option. However, it still hung on 'starting cups' with reboot giving the same panic message.

Looks like my last commands will be
su -
cd /
rm -rf *.*

just wanted all to know this helped me out too, i was getting the same errors on my server. RH9, mandrake, debian, and freebsd all installed without any problems. but i wanted fedora so i kept at it.
here is my mobo info in case anybody else with a similar problems stumbles along this thread
