Well, at first, what is your output if you type
$ java -version
in your console?
and if you type "about : plugins" (without the space) in the addresses bar of firefox, do you see that Java plugin (an extension with a filename like libjavaplugin*.so) running?
ah, and of course check in the Preferences of Firefox if Java is active ([X] Enable java)
bye!!!

I do not see that it is recogning any of the java that I downloaded and had thought that I had installed. On the java aplet under <system> - <preferences> in xwindows it says:
JavaTM 6
Version 6 update 10 (build 1.6.0_10-b33)
What do you think has happened? Its like it is sort of there, but not being used by anything.
