Mercury Messenger

I wanted to get Messenger worikng with video support. I installed Mercury messenger but it will not launch. The error that I get says that it does not recognise the version of javal that came with FC10. I tried upgrading to Sun Java, but Mercuy Mesenger seems to still be looking and the Java that came with FC10.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Hi !!

You have nothing to fear now, bee is here to help you!!

try this way to setup the Sun java:
At first go here to download and install the RPM package by Sun (i hope you installed that one, is it? if no, ask if you need help to install that package ).
Then, open a terminal:
Code:
su -
alternatives --install /usr/bin/java java /usr/java/latest/bin/java 20000
alternatives --install /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin.so libjavaplugin.so /usr/java/latest/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so 20000
(the second line is for a 32bit version of firefox....)

Result:
Code:
[bee@localhost ~]$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_10"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_10-b33)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 11.0-b15, mixed mode, sharing)

I did it just before and it work, so you have to copy me and nothing else

bye!!!

While the java appears to be installed when I click on the icon that it added to my "system--preferences" tab in FC10, when I go to the java page in Firefox, it says that it is not running. I am not sure where I have gone wrong.

you haven't explain really good your problem here

Well, at first, what is your output if you type
$ java -version
in your console?

and if you type "about: plugins" (without the space) in the addresses bar of firefox, do you see that Java plugin (an extension with a filename like libjavaplugin*.so) running?
ah, and of course check in the Preferences of Firefox if Java is active ([X] Enable java)

bye!!!

I do not see that it is recogning any of the java that I downloaded and had thought that I had installed. On the java aplet under <system> - <preferences> in xwindows it says:

JavaTM 6
Version 6 update 10 (build 1.6.0_10-b33)

What do you think has happened? Its like it is sort of there, but not being used by anything.

I did not understand when I first read thread 2. After reading it again, I used your syntax and it works! Thank you sooooo much. I never would have gotten this on my own.

I still have a copuple of other FC10 bugs to work out such as why it will not broadcast my web cam with Mercury and why it Rythmbox will not play my mp3s and why Movie Player will not read my mpegs or avi files. I'll struggle with these issues for a while longer before posting again. You never know, I may be able to work them out on my own. I would not have been able to have worked out this one on my own so I am greatly appreciative.

You're welcome!!

Later (when you are sick and tired to attempt and fail j/k ), open a new topic for each of your other issue so maybe i can help you again (hopefully ) . Anyway i know nothing about 'web cams and mercury' so i can't help you on this point.
I dislike Rythmbox (i like more Exaile, but it's a personal preference lolololol) if it doesn't play MP3 it's because .....i believe you haven't got the Audio codecs installed! and not even the video-codecs.
So if you open a new thread about this problem, i may try to help you and tell how to install multimedia applications. Let mercury and java here and move on

bye!!!!
