mac mini

I know nothing about macs. my mom has a mac in her office. she hates it. it recently went for some java upgrade and after it did it boots up properly but the screen shows nothing and i suggested we take it to apple store to see what they can do to fix it but she hates the mac as i do too and she want sto get rid of it so my question is if i took the mac from her( with permission) could i install fedora onto it and how? keep in mind i know nothing about mac and that it renders nothing when you boot it up on screen. it appears to be running but nothing shows on screen.

question 2: does one need a computer for a wifi network to run? i know you need ISP, modem, router but i dont know if the computer is actually required cuz i plick the mac will it disable our wireless?
