Secrets Required for Wireless Network

Hello all,

My problem is with my wireless network card on my laptop.

Now, using Network Manager, I can log into networks with no passwords and whatnot just fine. But I have a Linksys Wireless router set up with WPA2 Personal security. I have WPA Supplicant installed, and I can see my network listed in Network Manager, but when I go to connect to it, it keeps telling me "Secrets required" and it wants my network password over and over and over again.

My network card is an Intel PRO/Wireless 4965AG
I'm using a Toshiba Satellite and using Fedora 8.

I've tried going in to Network Manager and telling it to "Connect to other network" and I've tried creating a new network connection, but it still keeps asking me for a password over and over and over again without connecting.

I have NO desire to switch to WEP encryption and setting no encryption at all is not an option. I'm at my wits' end trying to figure this out.

Like I said, when I hover over my icon, it shows my Network in the list, but I just can't get it to connect.

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Dark$un,

I don't really know why this happens from time to time to people (and me occasionally). The usual answer is the "Connect to other wireless network" thing which you tried. All I can say is what I have done in the past and do now related to this with my Linksys router and WPA encryption. Try right-clicking on the NM tray icon, "Edit connections...", and then the "Wireless" tab. See if there are multiple instances of your network there. Try deleting them. If that doesn't work, try deleting them all and doing the "Connect to other wireless network" thing again. If that doesn't work, try looking in Services (system-config-services). NetworkManager and network will, of course, be enabled. But try disabling wpa_supplicant (NM will enable it when it needs it). I would even reboot after doing that. Then do the "Connect to other wireless network" thing again. Lastly (and ridiculously) double check the password in the router (I once sat there pecking in the wrong password over and over).

I know all of that was like a shotgun blast approach, but it's all I have on it. And something amongst all of that gets me connected. And obviously, no promises.

Stoat,

Thanks for the reply. I've tried all of that already, except for the system-config-services one. When I go into my sys config on my wireless card, there is no "WPA_supplicant" option. I have it installed though, I just checked.

There's got to be a better, more surefire way of getting wireless WPA to work.

Any other ideas?

Perhaps not the solution you're looking for, but I ran Fedora 10 Live this AM on my Lenovo 3000 N100 with the same wireless card as yours and it was recognized and took my WPA2 password without any intervention from me. Perhaps you might consider an upgrade after downloading and running the Live CD yourself?

Just a thought

Good Luck!
