Humm... just installed F10. Then, updated the system with proposed updates.

After that, I installed the repo RPMFusion, free and non-free and typed : "sudo yum install akmod-nvidia". I also installed ccsm, fusion-icon, emerald.

Everything worked, I started compiz desktop effects : all good. Rebooted, worked fine. Didn't installed anything more.

Now, at the 5th reboot, no more desktop effects. I try restarting them manually under "system-appearence->Desktop effects" and it doesn't work. Re-installed akmod-nvidia... no luck.

Here's some info :

Humm, I purged everything related to desktop effects in "sessions" (i.e. starting commands) and left "fusion-icon" only. Now, it seems to work when I boot, but there's some glitches, nothing important though.

For now I could live with that, unless you come up with "the" solution.

I have NVIDIA NV 135 on Dell D630 laptop. Which drivers would apply?

Viola! It works!

This is what I did for my Dell D630 with NVIDIA Quadro NV135M:

Note: Did NOT work after failed NVIDIA driver attempt. So -

Clean install of FC10 64-bit DVD.

then -

Code:
su - root

rpm -Uvh http://ftp-stud.hs-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm http://ftp-stud.hs-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm

yum install akmod-nvidia-173xx xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-173xx-libs.i386 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-173xx-libs.x86_64

shutdown -r now

This got the laptop display working with the new drivers. However, I usually work docked with twin Samsung Syncmaster 932 monitors.

To get the DVI monitor to be the left primary display and monitor on the analog (VGA) output of my DPORT, I changed my xorg, conf file to look like this:

Code:
# nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings
# nvidia-settings: version 1.0 (buildmeister@builder58) Fri Oct 31 15:06:38 PST 2008

This solution belongs to Leigh - I just had to figure out which drivers to use. Thanks Leigh!

Hi !

I have a nVidia geForce 9300 gs (said my vendor)
Code:
# lspci | grep VGA

Is my graphic card not supported by this driver ? I hope not so !

When doing this (from the first post) in the terminal, I get the following error:
Code:
Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrors.rpmfusion.org/mirrorlist?repo=nonfree-fedora-10&arch=x86_64 error was
[Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (-2, 'Name or service not known')>
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: rpmfusion-nonfree. Please verify its path and try again
While it looks like I'm not connected to the internet, I am; because I do it at the same time as posting this message (well, no, a minute before posting this message; but without changing my connection).

Arrow 180.16 driver

180.16 addresses a lot of bugs found in 177.82 .

F10 x86 (32bit )

Code:
su
yum erase *nvidia* livna-config-display
yum install dkms kernel-devel kernel-headers gcc wget
wget http://www.dfm.uninsubria.it/compiz/fusion-testing/nvidia/i386/nvidia-x11-drv-180.16-1.fc10.i386.rpm
yum --nogpgcheck install nvidia-x11-drv-180.16-1.fc10.i386.rpm
Reboot

F10 x86_64 (64bit )

Code:
su
yum erase *nvidia* livna-config-display
yum install dkms kernel-devel kernel-headers gcc wget
wget http://www.dfm.uninsubria.it/compiz/fusion-testing/nvidia/x86_64/nvidia-x11-drv-180.16-1.fc10.x86_64.rpm
wget http://www.dfm.uninsubria.it/compiz/fusion-testing/nvidia/x86_64/nvidia-x11-drv-32bit-180.16-1.fc10.x86_64.rpm
yum --nogpgcheck install nvidia-x11-drv-180.16-1.fc10.x86_64.rpm nvidia-x11-drv-32bit-180.16-1.fc10.x86_64.rpm

reboot

Trying to install 64bit version, everything goes fine, till halfway the actual install. It asks me if the 61M download is ok, I type y, and then I get:

Yes it's complaining because there is no xorg.conf

try
Code:
su
yum install system-config-display
Then run system-config-display
Code:
system-config-display

select OK and exit

then run

Code:
su -
nvidia-xconfig
RestartX or reboot

P.S it is only a 19Mb download for x86_64 ( the 61Mb is the size of the unpacked rpm's )

Hm, first and second go ok, but then nvidia-xconfig gives me this output:
Code:
Using X configuration file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf".

WARNING: Unable to find CorePointer in X configuration; attempting to add new
         CorePointer section.

WARNING: The CorePointer device was not specified explicitly in the layout;
         using the first mouse device.

Backed up file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' as '/etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup'
New X configuration file written to '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'
Is this supposed to happen? If so, why is there still no direct rendering possible? Checked that with 'glxinfo|grep render'.

The warnings are normal, have you rebooted ?
