Question Needing left-click to open files upon single-click

I am trying to get my mouse's left-click button to open files/folders upon single-click. I can see that it is supported in the assistive area of the driver dialog. However, when I check the checkbox to select this option, I get an error message reading that "Mousetweaks need assistive technologies." I looked for Assistive Technologies in the Add/Remove programs dialog, and this software is installed, but I still can't get the setting described above. Any ideas are most welcome.

Regards,
theAdmiral

Hi

If you are using Gnome, go to System > Preferences > Personal > File Management. Click on the "Behavior" tab and select "Single click to open items".

Question

For example, when I have Adobe Reader opened up, I would like for it to be that when the Adobe file dialog opens up and I click once on the file, I would like for it to open up. Any ideas, please???

Thanks,
theAdmiral

This does not open files in a program dialog. It only opens files in an explorer window (to my knowledge).

Yes, you are right. It will also work on your desktop (Nautilus), but not really with other dialogs.

As for the error message, "Mousetweaks need assistive technologies" - you should navigate to System > Preferences > Personal > Assistive Technologies and click on the "Enable assistive technologies" checkbox. Click the "Close and Log Out" button. When you log back in, assistive technologies should be enabled.

Note: I tried the "Trigger secondary click by holding down primary button" option, but the "secondary click" seems to be a right-click. You probably want a double-click. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to do that.

Hopefully someone else has a better idea.

Just a note that I am using KDE. The suggestions offered in this thread thus far are for Gnome. Still looking for help on this.
