I guess we can thank comcast and the bandwidth hogs. Coming to a DSL connection near you.
Does this frustrate anyone else?

rough stuff. 150 sounds like alot know, but in the future if you have say 4 people on 4 computers behind a router wanting to stream a descent resolution video at only 1 video a day. this could get tight. Especially if during that month say you need to d/l a couple dvd iso's, transfer several large files from your home to office, and then play some online video game from your ps3. 150 or even the 250 offered by comcast sounds like alot less. let alone if you are constantly seeding the torrents for the fedora and debian dvd iso's like I am as well as some other files. We are in for a rough time. Let alone if you are offering any decent size downloads from a web or ftp server behind the lines. yes we are heading down a sad road indeed. I just keep thinking of more and more stuff I do everyday that uses bandwidth. heck what if voip is your phone line, I dont know offhand how much data it actually sends, but if you are on the phone for several hours a day everyday i bet it adds up to at least a gig or so a month.
[end rant before this makes even less sense]

Give me a clearly defined limit, over fair-use, anyday.
Bandwidth is the biggest cost to an ISP, so it seems only fair that you pay by usage and not let the majority subsidise a few bandwidth hogs.
Many of my colleagues survive on 2GB/month, not sure how. I find my 15GB/month perfectly adequate. I am not really sparing in how I use it. I do use the iplayer quite a bit, and usually use about 10GB/month.
Fedora release months it gets a bit bigger, but my 15GB only applies between 8am and midnight, so I tend to download distros and any other big stuff using a cronjob to run while I'm asleep.

Hmm.... well the ISP package I'm on is advertised 24Mbps, and unlimited usage, & if they limit me, I won't be a happy customer & I might be classed as a bandwidth hogger, but I got good reasons (servers). but surprisingly, the ISP have never had a problem with it, even though it's coming up-to 2 years. And it never slows down either. Though, I have been capped before, they put me in the "Heavy Downloaders" group, so my speed dropped from 10Mbps to 1Mbps... with another ISP. I left (cancelled) them the very next day. Funny thing was, that "Heavy Downloading" was caused by PS2 online play.

You would think they could just identify those that truly do abuse it. If you have a legit reason then so be it. But to punish the rest of the free world, it's ridiculous. I worked for a major telecom provider that had more dark fiber than lit......the bandwidth and equipment to handle it is already in place. It might be a problem if EVERYONE was on the net at the same time, but I just don't see it. I just installed download monitors on all my PC's to see what I actually use. I might even suprise myself.

Unfortunately only the low-end speed is available at my home right now so I would be stuck with the 20GB limit! A few Linux DVDs and I'd be screwed!
If I would use more than 70 GB then it would be worth it for me to go to Cable with their overage fees!
