Grey screen issues

I seem to keep getting a grey screen whenever I try to login as a second user.

I am logged in as "root", while trying to get my system running the way I want it (see other posts for the problems I am having), but I was not able to run the system packager gui to see if I am missing software, etc... So I went to login as myself, and I can get to the login screen, click on my name, and type my password, then it starts to load, and I get a grey screen.

I can move the mouse around and that's about it...

I have also tried logging in first as myself, then as "root". I get the same results.
