driving me crazy

ok so i have looked all over gconf, and in the compiz manual website et cetera. i dont know if i just dont know how to word it to goolge or my problem is unique, i would say most likely the latter, but does anyone know how to fix this

it works normal with metacity, just compiz has this problem.
#compiz --version
compiz 0.7.6

Hello:
Which theme are you using?
And does the problem persist if you change it up?

clearlooks and yes it is persistent, just went through and tried the lot. I havent installed any new themes since install. I havent tried emerald as the decorator, so i dont know if that fixes the problem, I would like to avoid emerald if possible though. side note: it does not do this on my debian box with the same version of compiz installed

fixed by never allowing metacity to start in a gnome session, and starting compiz as the only window manager instead of starting it with the --replace flag after metacity had already started
