40bit wep with passphrase

Hey folks,

I'v been using linux for bout a year jumping between distros but finally have landed on fedora and its the best! I'v found all the answers to all the questions I'v ever had just by reading these forums so Thank You!

The problem I have now however is not being able to connect to my college network. Now I have everything configured perfect and able to connect to my home network and friends networks ect. But today my college tutor was trying to configure my computer to connect to the college network but was not able to.

He is using 40bitwep consisting of numbers and letters, but also a written word passphrase. According to him with a windows machine you enter the passphrase then get prompted for the wep.

I'v never heard of this and network manager does not seem to have this option for 40bit wep and passphrase. Does anyone know a workaround or have they encountered this before.

I would be very greatful for any input or suggestions.

Sorry folks but just to follow up its actually multiple weps that is in operation at the college. So my question is actually how to set network manager to hold multiple weps for the one access point. Im gonna go try see if I can find anything on this and I'll post back if I do. In the meantime any input would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks,

JokEr

Network Manager doesn't play very well with WEP in my experience. It does much better with WPA/WPA2 security. I find that using the old WEP security it's better to not use the NetworkManager service, and use the old network service instead. You can alter your service settings from system, administration, services. And to set up the network run system, administration, network (system-config-network).
