System will not shutdown or reboot after kernel upgrade

I installed FC9 on my system and it shutdown and rebooted without problem under kernel 2.6.25-14.fc9.i686. I updated the kernel to 2.6.26.5-45.fc9.i686 and not I cannot reboot or shutdown properly. The system hangs at "Sending all processes the KILL signal...", it was hanging at "Unmounting file systems". A Crtl-Alt-Del gives "init: RC6 main process killed by TERM signal", the system still does not reboot.

All of this works properly under 2.6.25-14.fc9.i686.

Any advice on how to fix this would be appreciated.

You are not alone.

One thing you might try is typing: sudo init 3, then type:
shutdown -h now

Thanks, but no help still hangs.

Hopefully someone has a solution to this.

Has anyone tried rebuilding the kernel to see if that fixes the problem?

Question probably the best idea

alternatively you could try adding acpi=off to the grub boot command line - this helps (sometimes).

Have you applied all the other necessary patches?

Adding acpi=off was no help.

All patches applied.

Is there a repository of kernels for F9 between 2.6.25-14.fc9.i686 and 2.6.26.5-45.fc9.i686, so I can find where things went wrong?

Thanks for your help.
