Exclamation How to Disable Laptop Touchpad?

I have Fedora Core 2 installed on a Sony Vaio v505 laptop. I use a USB mouse and it works great, however, I keep brushing against the stupid touchpad and it messes up what I'm trying to type. The BIOS doesn't offer a way to disable it either.

What I need to do is to completely remove the trackpad. I have searched the web but there is little support out there for FC2 since the 2.6 kernel has an integrated synaptics driver. I have also tried to remove it from my xorg.conf file but there is only one mouse listed there. If I remove that mouse, the GDM doesn't even boot.

I *do not* want to fix the driver, or do anything like that. I just want to completely remove it from my system. Does anyone have any ideas? I know this is probably so simple but it's definitely harder than it seems.

Help!!!

I am not sure if this will help, but on my laptop I use the synaptic driver from
synaptic driver and the latest driver is 0.13.4.
I am assuming you laptop has the on/off switch for the touchpad and this driver enables me to turn it off when typing and turn it back on.

Actually, that doesn't help me but thanks anyway. I need to completely disable the touchpad. I have considered physically removing it if necessary but I don't like it at all.

Also, the link didn't work...

I'm running FC2 on a Thinkpad T30 and simply disabled the touchpad in the BIOS.

Hi!

I own a Acer Travelmate and can disable the touchpad by pressing a shortcut. This is OS independant. I think I can also deactivate it in the BIOS.

Bye,

Chris

Hi, I too have a vaio v505 and it did bother me the way the cursor jumped from one place to another due to the sensitivity of the touchpad. However, the latest
synaptics driver offers disabled tabbing by default. you might wanna give it a try.
