after update The VPN connection 'xxx' failed because the VPN service failed to start.

installed updates from update service and it no longer connects to VPN but gets message in subject line. Level of installed packages is:


NetworkManager.x86_64 1:0.7.0-0.11.svn4022.f installed
NetworkManager-glib.x86_64 1:0.7.0-0.11.svn4022.f installed
NetworkManager-gnome.x86_64 1:0.7.0-0.11.svn4022.f installed
NetworkManager-openvpn.x86_64 1:0.7.0-15.svn4027.fc9 installed


connects fine from terminal script.

I am having the same problem. I haven't tried connecting using a terminal script. Are you referring to the openvpn service "start" script, or the openvpn connection script?

I should add that I haven't had any problems with the Network Manager or with OpenVPN before the recent update.

I guess you'd call it the openvpn connection script:. Like this:

cd /etc/openvpn/ ; sudo /usr/sbin/openvpn /etc/openvpn/mnetvpn1.ovpn

where the connection settings are in the referenced file.

Has the advantage that one can have two simultaneous VPN connections which Network Manager does not support for some reason

I had problems as above. After latest upgrade my current configs stopped working. the log showed the following error:

'invalid address 'local-ip''

I think this was due to the changes to the Network routing section, so I rebuilt my config.

When I created the new config, I started getting errors saying the certificate couldn't be found, or the key was not valid. Seems the boxes for the CA cert and Client Cert have got reversed. (The Client and CA cert entries are reversed when I edit my old configs). So I changed my new config to put the client cert reference into the CA box and the CA cert reference into the client box, it all connects ok.

On my original configs, I had configured 10.168.1.0/24 in the network tab so that only my vpn traffic was routed to my vpn server network (10.168.1.0) allowing my local network, internet and messenger connections to remain on the local client network. This option has now changed and we have a greater range of options which look really useful, but without some assistance (I am no network expert) I am unsure how to configure them.

I am guessing that the second would do what I had configured before (ie only route the vpn addresses over the vpn)?

If I wanted to refine that, I am guessing I could use the manual setting, but I do not know how for example 10.168.1.0/24 would be entered into the boxes provided.

Would anyone be able to offer any guidance or point me to the right place to look.

I had this same issue today. This worked for me.

1. Network Manager->VPN Connections->Configure VPN..
2. Delete existing entries under VPN tab
3. Readd them
4. Try to connect to the VPN's with NetworkManager now
