shrink fc9 partition

fc9 gnome is installed on entire hdd.

i need to resize this partition to install another operating system on this 80gb hdd, but am finding it impossible to do so.

will i be able to?

any advice or links are appreciated.

You cannot resize a partition in use. Use a live CD with Gparted and you will get the job done.

the gparted live cd is the 1st thing i tried.

gparted won't cut it; it shows up as an unknown format.

and the resize/move option remains grayed out.

Then it's an LVM (Logical Volume Management) physical volume. You will now have to teach yourself a new way of thinking about partitions and learn a new set of commands and utilities. It's all well-documented in various threads here. Try searching for this with Google:

resize lvm site:fedoraforum.org

You will find more than enough to keep you busy for a while.

send me your output from fdisk -l; which version of f9 are you using (32 or 64 bit); which filesystem do you use?
