SDHC vs USB Dongle

I bought a Sandisk 4GB SDHC Class 4 / 15MB/s in hope that would be a perfect extension for my Eee Pc.

Reading from works just fine, but writing to it has turned out to be a waste of time.

I can transfer 1 to 4 2MP photos without any problems, but if I continue to transfer files to it it just chokes up and I have to pull it out. And in worst cases, I have to format it.

I've tried FAT32 which sadly is a bit faster than ext2, on this card if I may add.

I have an external drive with me, but having to hook that up all the time could be annoying, so would a good quality USB dongle maybe be a better choice?

I don't have an Eee or an SDHC drive but I do have a kensington 4GB USB 2.0 flash drive I'm very happy with, and at the price for just 4GB I think it'd be nice enough for you working with photos and documents. I regularly transfer groups of photos from machine to machine on mine.
