Fedora 9 on BenQA52E: Firefox starts in offline mode, closing lid always hibernates

Hello,

I have installed recently F9 on a laptop BenQ A52E. The only thing when installing that didn't went too easy was making F9 work with Acorp Sprinter USB ADSL modem. But that's solved finally. There are two annoying problems still. Note: I log in as regular user, not root, I use Gnome.

1. Firefox 3.+ always starts in offline mode. When 'Work in offline mode' is unchecked, it works fine. It really annoys. I have browsed about:config, and the variables related are set to correct values:

Code:
browser.offline = false
network.online = true
yet it starts offline.

2. Closing computer lid ALWAYS hibernates it. I have switched the action for closing lid to 'Do nothing' in System -> Preferences -> Power Management, yet it hibernates the system every time I close lid. Workaround: I have installed 'Inhibit Applet', but it also doesn't remember its state and I have to keep lid open until I have chance to click on the applet.

Could someone offer more permanent solutions to either problem? Searching on these forums didn't reveal anything very helpful.

Thanks.

Hello:
Have you updated your installation, if not you should.

See if this helps with your Firefox issue.

I have upgraded, the moment I have had Internet connection set up.

I was given advice to shut down NetworkMonitor and use 'old-style' network service instead, since NetworkMonitor can do such sort of things (offline mode).

The link you provided has interesting info, but I do not start ADSL connection at boo ttime, so the advice is not related to my cause.

I wonder, whether someone has good advice about power management settings in Gnome.
