help in installing build-essential

hi
i am trying to make an internet camera work as a security cam,
i had installed apt-get .
but when i run the command :

sudo apt-get install build-essential

i get :

Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package build-essential

i tried to point at the build_essential package on the desktop
but it didn't work .

i will be very glad to hear any suggestion to solve this problem.

thank's for all who helps

Why did you install apt-get to install a local package? Yum would have worked fine:

yum localinstall packagename.rpm

Isn't build-essential a Debian thing? Do we have something like that?

I always use yum -y install make gcc gcc-c++ kernel-devel

Which pulls in most of what I usually need (the above packages pull in several dependencies.
Let's check
yum search build-essential

no matches found

Did you mean to post on another distro's forum perhaps, or am I mistyping the name?

Try
Code:
su
yum groupinstall "Development Tools"
yum install kernel-devel kernel-headers

P.S build_essential is for debian based distros and isn't available for fedora .

No, you don't need to change your distribution. Just find instructions for installing the software on Fedora (and other Red Hat -related distros) instead of the Debian-style instructions. Alternatively you can ask for help on these forums.
