Unhappy Need help in using emerald theme manager

I've installed Emerald theme manager along with the compiz fusion(i.e. beryl is along with it). when i start the emerald theme using
# emerald --replace
it shows title bar replaced by the theme i've added in emerald theme manage. But when i close the terminal, everything goes off. Even the title bar goes off and nothing can be moved or closed.

I m newbee to Linux world. Is there any mistake i m making...?? Or plz give me the whole idea of installing and using the Emerald theme manager. My main aim is to give Vista look to Fedora 9 Sulphur.

regards

Re: Need help in using emerald theme manager

Sorry, the answer posted wasn't really an answer to what he was asking, so I'll help him as that's a pet peave of mine.

The reason your emerald is closing when you close the terminal is because the emerald process is being called from that terminal.

If you want emerald to continue running without needing to keep that terminal up, you'll need to run it in a background script or in your desktop environment's "startup applications" variant. If you still want it to run manually but dont want to keep that terminal up, I believe most DE's have their "run" command as "alt + f2".

Or you could just place an ampersand (&) at the end of the line when you call emerald so that it runs as a background process.

Re: Need help in using emerald theme manager

This might help...

sudo yum install fusion-icon

Then, in KDE, create a link in ~.kde/Autostart
Quote:
[stephen@macbeth Autostart]$ pwd
/home/stephen/.kde/Autostart
[stephen@macbeth Autostart]$ ls -ltr
total 16
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 stephen stephen 20 Dec 22 13:25 fusion-icon -> /usr/bin/fusion-icon
For Gnome or any of the other windows managers, i have no idea where to put the link or it it is needed.

Fusion-icon lets you easily manage themes and such from the system tray. The soft link just makes sure is starts every time you login. You can start it from the menus or from a terminal to try it out.

Demz i correct though, a simple forum search turned up 4 pages of hits - including this little gem..

Thanks for following up; For Gnome, I don't know if this is the "right" way as I'm new to the fedora way of doing things, but what I have had success with is just adding "fusion-icon" to 'startup applications' in the gnome administration menu. If you're wanting compiz and emerald to run automatically upon login, anyway.

I'm not sure if compiz is "ready" for that, but, I'm old fashioned in my views so my impulse is to recommend starting compiz and emerald manually (if that's going overboard with stability precautions let me know, as I've not been tracking compiz's development progress).
