Resetting screen resolution in fedora 5

Me in my infinite stupidity set the screen resolution beyond what my monitor can display, but I tried some of the methods I found on this site and was unable to restore the backup. How might I get the default monitor resoultion to work?

Open a terminal and log into it as root user. Then:
mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.screwedup

Log out of terminal and desktop. ALT-CTL-Backspace to re-start X-server. Should start with default/probed/built-in settings.

Control + Alt + F1
Use root login
Code:
mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.screwedup
reboot
