fc9 - scim not working with firefox

I just updated my machine from fc6 to fc9. Now, I installed scim-1.4.7-23.fc9.i386 but scim isn't working with firefox. It is working with xterm though...I'm trying to use Anthy to input Japanese.

I put the following lines to .bash_profile as well.

export XMODIFIERS='@im=SCIM'
export LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8
scim -d

What else do I need to change to make it work with firefox again? It was working just fine with fc6 so I'm totally lost here.

Thank you for your help in advance!

(Rolls up sleeves to show there's nothing up them.)
either
export LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.UTF-8

or
export GTK_IM_MODULE="scim"

should fix it.
I would go for the GTK_IM_MODULE one though, as it enables you to keep LC_CTYPE at default.

I just put export GTK_IM_MODULE="scim" in .bash_profile, logged out and logged back in. Still not working

Any ideas?

please try
XMODIFIERS='@im=SCIM' LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 GTK_IM_MODULE="scim" firefox

See if that works.

(Also of course, make sure that scim is running.)

EDIT--it might not have been clear, I meant, please open an xterm and run that command.

Still no The way I'm testing is to press Ctrl-space to see if I can type in Japanese or see the language bar show up, which it does in xterm and eterm. I wonder why I didn't need to do anything special with fc6. I'm using Firefox 3.0.1, if that helps any. Help me!

This is peculiar. Maybe, in this case, it's like OpenOffice often is for me.

Ok, try this one
From a terminal
XMODIFIERS='@im=SCIM' GTK_IM_MODULE="scim" LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.UTF-8 firefox

See if that one does it.

It's annoying--there's no hard and fast rule that I've discovered about it yet. In general--but as you see, not always--with GTK stuff you can get away with your usual LC_CTYPE and GTK_IM_MODULE
OR--no GTK_IM_MODULE and ja_JP.whatever.

My guess is if you remove the GTK_IM_MODULE="scim" it will still work, but that's just a guess. If you feel like trying it, I'd be curious, but there's no real need, as I already know it's a whimsical thing. It's more idle curiosity on my part.
