fedora 9 - "secrets required by wireless network" again and again and again

I'm this complete newbie to fedora and was over the moon when it finally started working. A couple of hours ago, I successfully accessed my internet and then some updates proceeded to download automatically.

dno what happened but firefox was running fine. then, I switched off my router, disappeared for a while then came back and switched it on.

now, I can't access my internet my SSID is detected everytime no problem and I try to connect. then the "secrets required..." etc etc box comes up and I enter my network key which is 100% correct. fedora fails to connect (???) and then the process starts over.

I use a thinkpad R60 which has inbuilt wireless so this is nothing to do with cards etc. can anyone tell me what is going on with my connection?

any help much appreciated!

...meh...for now, i'll be using a spare laptop running on win xp

Hello vitasoy

It may be no help at all, but when this happens some people find that deleting the file that contains the details of your wireless network helps. That forces NetworkManager to start again.

That's the file:

Code:
login.keyring
in the directory

Code:
/home/<your user name>/.gnome2/keyrings
The directory '.gnome2' is hidden and will need to be revealed.

Another possibility is left clicking on NetworkManager and selecting "Create New Wireless Network".

But the problem at hand still hasn't been solved. Why does a kernel update break the wireless networking function? I still have the original Fedora 9 kernel installed, plus the latest updated kernel. If I boot into the old kernel, everything works great. The new kernel has loaded the driver correctly, otherwise I wouldn't even be able to see my wireless network SSID. Yet, I can see my wireless network SSID with both kernels, I just cannot connect to it when I use a newer kernel. It constantly asks for the WPA passphrase. Turning off wireless security does not help. In that case, it will just not connect. So we can't blame WPA for this problem.

Also, I am not using the NDIS wrapper. I am using the open source RT2x00 driver included in the kernel. So we can't blame a lack of NDIS update.
