Anyone interested in trying team fortress 2?

Granted there was a free weekend of play time for that game but in case you didn't know.. probably everyone got free guest passes for that game. I'm not exactly sure how long you can play using it but my friend thinks it's for 3 days once accepted, you should probably get a copy from a friend first or get it by another means before accepting it as you will have more time to play. Before this thread gets spammed perhaps, I only have one to give so if your the second/third etc. person that asks.. your not getting it. :X Who would like it?

Um... I'm sure I can find plenty of info on "Team Fortress 2" with a Google search, but perhaps you should post a link or two, and maybe just a little background info, for convenience, in case anyone's interested?

An example of actual gameplay with the map ctf_2fort, the goal? either killing everyone and protecting base or going on offense or steal there intel briefcase 3 times and help your team or you yourself capture it 3 times for the win.

Information about each character -

spy - invisiblity for a short time, backstab with knife=instant kill, disguise as other characters
scout - fastest character in 2fort, weapons= scattergun for multiple bullets, bats, handgun
engineer - handgun, wrench, sentry(killing machine), build teleporter, despencer(refill health/ammo)
demoman - bottle(bar fight bottle?), stickybombs(detonate placed gernades), regular gernades
heavy - slowest character but deadly with medic combo, machinegun, shotgun, fists
pyro - flamethrower, ax, shotgun.. with flamethrower you can blast/push enemies backwords using air blast?
medic - needles, a healing weapon that can make you and another person insisible for 10 or 20 seconds?.. called uber, saw

sniper - sniper gun to zoom in and give instant death head shots, automatic gun, machete
soldier - rocket launcher, shovel, shotgun

Weapon upgrades? Yeah there are but only for 3 characters at the moment(you have to earn them)..

medic - ubersaw(hit enemies to gain uber), kritzkrieg(no uber but you can give teamate 100% critical hits against enemy), blutzsauger(each hit on enemy with it gives you +3 health)

pyro - backburner(100% critical hits from behind), flaregun, axtinguisher(100% critical hit against burning enemies/-50% damage vs. not burning enemies/no critical hits against not burning enemies)

heavy - matascha(100% chance to slow enemy on hit/-25% damage done), sandvich(unlimited supply/takes 4 seconds to eat?/gives heavy 120+? health when done eating), killing gloves of boxing(on kill gives 5 seconds of 100% critical chance with weapons/20% slower firing speed)

is this game dead almost or something? why are they giving away this stuff.. -

actually it has 2000+ servers and the game is ranked 92 metascore out of a possible 100 i think by steam (means very popular)

that map you showed me looks stupid, what other stuff is there? -

even though ive played a few months i like to stick with something forever but i know there are others like instead of capturing intel you can capture control points and you can actually get them back to i think if there stolen but not sure??.. so you have to capture all 3 :0, there is a goldrush map where people push around a cart to a certain place but its hard when it moves slow and whole enemy team is trying to stop you there are a lot of other maps.. you pick <3

It can be played under linux as well using wine but the results weren't very good. Perhaps with tweaking it could be playable but you couldn't message anyone using the in-game messenger, I have yet to tweak the settings as I've just been playing under windows myself lol. Could you pm me your email address (make sure it's correct) so I can send you it then? Don't activate it though until your ready to play. More time to play I mean.. Yeah I do mean September 20'th.

But anyway I have to install Winblows on my pc anyway now for my brother (ironically so he can use steam and play half life 2 and stuff)

I have tried wine, crossover office and cedega to run steam and they all ran it once (only cedega had working sound) and then it didn't work ever again for some reason.
When it came out I tried cxgames which actually worked perfectly until the trial ran out and I'm too tight to pay for a subscription.
I wouldnt mind paying one off but not for a subscription because I wouldn't care enough to want it to keep updating (as long as steam keeps working as thats the only thing I would use it for!)
So I'll get winblows installed later and give it a go

Ha, don't forget to send info. then. To bad, I haven't even touched linux since I play this 24/7, I'm even ranked #2 and was #1 but the guy decided to play again on my favorite server.

Well i started downloading it friday but when it finished on saturday it wont let me play it.
What a con im never buying this game on pc now because valve lied to me.

So much for the invite I guess. :X um.. You know some things might need tweaking perhaps before it may work rite yes? After all look at linux lol.. What's the issue your having? It could be a lot of different things.. But please, if you tell me what's going on I can try and help so you can get it running..

add -noborder to the launch params and that should fix it.

How do you know that thing will fix it? :0 I only used that command when i wanted to play it via windowed mode and make it look full screen..

Orange Box tutorial and it's what I ahd to do to make mine work under Wine. (I play it on windows though... I have a Windows partition that's all)

By work did you mean it loaded but the screen sizes were out of wack? I just don't see how that command has anything to do with actually making it load and work.. If it does then wine is truly weird. :0 I haven't even been on linux in forever as I just stay under windows and play it on here.
