Please help with setting up Sony Digital Camera
I'm trying to get my digital camera (Sony DSC-F717) to communicate via USB to my computer (FC2, AMD 2500, 512 DDR). I've tried the Digital Camera tool, selected my camera, but I get a message stating that it can't initialize the camera. Would someone please walk me through the setup?
Thanks,

I have a different SOny camera and to get it to work, I created a directory under /mnt/ called usb1. Plugged the camera in (with camera powered on). Then go to a terminal window and type "mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb1"
That's it.

I have a Sony DSC-P52 that Gphoto won't recognize. Interestingly enough, I double-clicked the Computer icon on my desktop, and my camera showed up there in Nautilus. Double clicking on the camera icon, it put a link to my desktop as well.
I was able to copy and paste my pictures from there to a folder in my home directory similar to what imdeemvp describes above.
Now if I could just get f-spot to work...

Thanks
Got it...thanks to silwenae and others for help. I turned on camera, plugged in USB, clicked computer, and there was the camera icon. Copied pics to my home directory, very easy.
